About Me
Coming from a small rural town in Maryland called Poolesville, I consider myself a well-rounded individual with a unique perspective on life. There are no stop lights in my town, and my elementary school, middle school, and high school are all within a one mile radius of one another.
I am 21 years old. My birthday is May 17th, 1988. I am a rising senior at Virginia Tech, majoring in Financial Planning. I plan on attaining my CFP® , and giving financial advice to those in need. An average American spends 105% of their income, and the biggest reason that couples divorce is because of money. I want to allow families to not worry about their finances, and live the most fulfilling life possible.
I am currently the Student Body President at Virginia Tech. I am extremely passionate about amplifying the voices of the students. We have put together a team of selfless students who truly care about the welfare of the student body, so I know we have something very special this year.
I also co-founded a soon to be non-profit organization called Actively Caring For People. We believe that through intentional acts of kindness, one can change the world. An act of kindness has a ripple effect with no logical end. I personally believe that what you do that is not on your resume is more important than what is on your resume. I believe in Aristotle's view on ethics.
I consider myself to be motivated internally; that is my drive comes from within. My motivation stems from helping others (self-transcendence), seeing an idea come to fruition, my experiences in general, and from seeing the inherent good in people. I sincerely believe that all authority belongs to the people.
After college, I hope to either commit my time 100% to Actively Caring for People, or applying for Teach for America.
Here are some fun facts about me:
Favorite Quote: "The true testament of a man's character is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good." -- Samuel Johnson
Favorite Movie: Freedom Writers
Favorite Thing To Do: Hang out in the SGA office, or meet with a concerned student....to figure out how to make VT better.
Favorite TV Show: It's a tie - 24 & Entourage
Favorite Book: The Tipping Point by Malcom Gladwell
Favorite Spot at Virginia Tech: The pylons overlooking the drillfield, especially at night
Siblings: Two. One brother (Michael, 25). One sister (Alicia, 22)
Pets: One Dog, Boscoe. He is the best dog in the world.
Embarrassing Story: I was in Intro to Sociology freshman year and my phone went off. It was broken and it was extremely loud on speaker phone. For some reason, the phone would not turn off speaker phone. Then, I tried shutting it off. Well, it wouldn't do that either. I was on the phone with my friend Ali, and she was saying "Brandon!" very loud. The professor, Dr. Hughes, ended up having to stop class momentarily because it was so distracting. I ended up running out the back door and had to take out the battery for the phone to finally not be on speaker
